Kick-Ass kicked ass at the box office when it debuted back in 2010 – and now we get our first good look at the sequel in this red-band Kick-Ass 2 trailer. Can this sequel compete in a crowded superhero summer movie season? If this clip is any indication, it should do just fine.
Kick-Ass 2 is set to take place shortly after the events in the first film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is back as the title character, and will be reunited with Chloe Moretz’s Hit-Girl in the new tale. Together, they’ll be facing Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s villainous the Motherf***er. You might remember that Mintz-Plasse was Red Mist in the last film, but he's back with a new persona this time out. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, Jim Carrey will also join the cast, playing a kooky character named Colonel Stars and Stripes.
Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl find themselves once again squaring off against Mintz-Plasse’s character, who’s vowed revenge for things that happened in the first film. Like all good sequels, Kick-Ass 2 is set to up the stakes by adding even more villains to the mix.
All in all, the newest clip looks like it should appeal to fans of the original. Hit-Girl’s a little older, but just as vulgar as ever, and Kick-Ass looks to be struggling with his new role in the world. You can’t definitively judge a film by its trailer, but so far, so good.
We’ll have to wait until this summer to find out if Kick-Ass 2 can live up to the legacy of the original film. The title will land in theaters on August 16 – but until then, enjoy this NOT SAFE FOR WORK red-band trailer.
