Given the success of this summer’s new Star Trek movie and the Blu-ray set of the first six Star Trek movies already available in stores, it was only a matter of time before Paramount went back to the vault to revisit the subsequent Next Generation movies, including Generations, First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis. Those four movies plus a bonus disc, Star Trek: Evolutions, will comprise the new Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection, available on both DVD and Blu-ray on September 22. The BD set will include a substantial amount of exclusive extras, including a Star Trek IQ BD-Live challenge, “The Borg Collective featurettes,” a tribute to composer Jerry Goldsmith, “Star Trek’s Beautiful Alien Women,” “The Romulan Empire featurettes” and much more. The bonus disc in both the DVD and BD set contains “Villains of Star Trek,” “Farewell to Star Trek: The Experience,” “Klingon Encounter,” “Borg Invasion 4D,” “The Evolution of the Enterprise” and other features from the final frontier. It’s hard to believe that Patrick Stewart’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his Next Generation crew debuted 22 years ago on television, and that storyline has since been dropped in favor of J.J. Abrams’s reboot of the series. For the generation who grew up on Next Generation, this set is one you’ll want to beam up for good.
