If you like G.I. Joe: Retaliation but found yourself sitting in the theater thinking, this is pretty cool, but it could have been a whole lot shorter and more 8-bit, then the guys at CineFix have something you’re going to want to check out.

Directors Norwood Cheek and David Sutton have crafted this shortened retelling of the film using classic 8-bit graphics as part of the 8-Bit Cinema! series. If you’ve ever played Contra (Konami code!) or Ninja Gaiden (the Nintendo Entertainment System versions --not the more recent titles), this is sure to amuse you while striking a chord of nostalgia at the same time.

The clip runs a mere 96 seconds, but it hits most of the major plot points and looks hilarious while doing so. Yes, even Roadblock makes an appearance, looking like the most overmuscled 8-bit sprite we’ve ever seen.

While the 8-bit version of the film isn’t quite as visually spectacular as its cinematic inspiration and skimps a bit on the nuances of the story, G.I. Joe: Retaliation works pretty well as a micromovie comprised of nothing but action scenes. Don’t take our word for it – watch it for yourself below.
