It's that magical time of year when the planets align and Friday meets the 13th. You probably have your pick of a thousand and one things to do this evening, but we're highlighting the coolest Friday the 13th celebration of all time. Philadelphia will host the first outdoor, overnight horror-film festival at a summer camp, as part of the city's up-and-coming Awesome Fest. If you were in the City of Brotherly Love this summer, and you care about movies, you probably attended one of Awesome Fest's many, um, awesome repertory screenings. They were also the groovy folks behind the recent double feature of Hot Fuzz and The World's End, with Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in attendance.
Tonight, Awesome Fest is bringing cinema's iconic masked madman Jason Voorhees to the Adventureland Day Camp in Bensalem for a six-film screening from dusk 'til dawn. There'll be fishing, rock climbing, campfires, food, vendors and other surprises for campers. The spooky slate for your viewing pleasure: Friday The 13th (the original, duh), Sleepaway Camp, Jug Face, The Battery, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane and The Burning. The event is BYOB and BYOT (bring your own tent), so we fully expect the Friday the 13th Summer Camp Sleepover to be insanely fun.
For more information and to purchase tickets (still available!), head over to the Awesome Fest website for details. If you don't take this opportunity to make out with your sweetie under threat of a lunatic, eat marshmallows on a stick like a hobo, and feast on slasher movies all night long, you'll regret it for the rest of your life (if you make it out alive).
