Fox Finds a Director for its 'Fantastic Four' Reboot, but Loses One for 'Daredevil'

Jul 12, 2012

20th Century Fox honcho Tom Rothman let word out that Chronicle director Josh Trank was attached to a reboot of Fantastic Four, though at the time his involvement was purely conceptual. The idea was that he'd shape the project for the studio, but that they'd then go to someone else to write and direct (not unlike what Warner Bros. did with Christopher Nolan and Man of Steel). Now Deadline is reporting they've gone ahead and cut out the middle man, officially attaching Trank as the director now in search of an entirely new cast for Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing.

The studio hasn't outed who will actually be writing the project, and obviously there's zero detail as to what kind of storyline this new version will explore, but they are committed to making it their next Marvel film after the already-in-production combo of The Wolverine (directed by James Mangold) and X-Men: First Class 2 (with Matthew Vaughn once again stepping into the director's chair).

Bumping Fantastic Four up in the production pipeline appears to have bumped Daredevil? back a spot. 30 Days of Night director David Slade had been set to direct the project, but several delays in getting the script to a shoot worthy state kept pushing the film back and now he can't make it due to contractual obligations to NBC's new Hannibal Lecter-based TV show, which Slade is producing and directing. Deadline further reports that Fox is now happy with the state of the script, so the next step is finding a new director.

So what say you superhero fans. Is the man who made the found footage superhero movie a good fit for Mister Fantastic and the gang? And are you sad that Slade won't be making Daredevil after all?
