Fox Plans 'Wolverine' and 'Apes' for Comic-Con, Plus 'Predators' Teases Something New

Fox Plans 'Wolverine' and 'Apes' for Comic-Con, Plus 'Predators' Teases Something New

Jul 15, 2013

Comic-Con kicks off later this week, which means you can expect an avalanche of big movie news with some stuff about comics only when they figure into the movie news in some way. I’m still waiting for the day when they officially change the title of the convention to San Diego Movie-Con, because that seems way more accurate with each passing year. Not that I’m complaining, necessarily – I love movies and comics, so it’s a win-win for me.

The Con hasn’t officially kicked off yet, but we’ve already got some interesting news on things you will be hearing about as the week progresses, as well as a tantalizing teaser that would seem to indicate that one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most beloved franchises is about to get another installment.

First up, we finally know some of what Fox will be showing at the event. When the schedule debuted last week, Fox’s entry was empty – but that didn’t mean the studio folks weren't showing some footage and the like. Oh no, they were just being coy.

If you’re lucky enough to be attending the panel on Saturday, you’ll get to see The Wolverine director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman talk about the film, which debuts later this month.

That’s not all, though. Fox has also revealed that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes cast members Andy Serkis, Kerri Russell and Jason Clarke will be joined by director Matt Reeves at the panel. If that weren’t enough, the studio is also promising a surprise that many people are speculating will be footage from X-Men: Days of Future Past. That’s a pretty good lineup if it all pans out. If you’re attending the Con, we’d be sure to try and get into that event. [via THR]

Of course, maybe that “surprise” has something to do with the new teaser image that recently turned up on the Facebook page for Predators instead. That’s a Fox property too, and clearly something is afoot there.

The new image made its debut recently and features a map of San Diego with the following memorable line from the film: “There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die…” then it adds the hashtag #HuntThePredator.

What could it mean? Your guess is as good as ours. Is this a teaser for a new video game? The sequel Rodriguez has talked about since before the previous film even released? Could it be another Schwarzenegger franchise the Governator wants to revive? No one knows, but we’ll be keeping an eye on things as the week progresses. [via Empire]
