If you're a fan of "girlie pop culture," "female-centric movies," and other media, then the Alamo Drafthouse has a new film festival to obsess over. It's called Forever Fest, and the weekend-long celebration is organized by a few familiar faces (if you're an Austinite, anyway). Sarah Pitre is the lead programmer for the Drafthouse and hosts their monthly series, Girlie Night, and Brandy Fons runs the PR agency representing the Drafthouse (Fons PR). Since the women were already part of the Alamo family, it seemed like the logical and fun thing to do.
They're asking for Kickstarter donations to help raise money for their new venture. The fest will offer repertory screenings of films and TV shows, advanced screenings of the stuff you've been dying to see, social events, and all the "girlie" celebrations you can stand. "Forever Fest captures the giddy excitement of discovering your favorite movie with your best friends beside you," the organizers write. So, imagine the biggest slumber party ever and multiply that with champagne, cupcakes, and YA novels. Donations will go toward hotel and flights for special guests, including cast members from all your film favorites. The group also needs help with venue rental costs and other event spaces for parties.
Here are a few of the programs lined up so far:
Danceoke: Your favorite cinematic dance routines performed live on stage while the scene plays on the big screen.
EMPIRE RECORDS screening with star Ethan Embry in attendance, followed by a Rex Manning Day party.
The Cute Show: an adorable clip show presented by BuzzFeed and guaranteed to make you squee.
Book talk with Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks, creators of Go Fug Yourself and authors of Spoiled and Messy.
CAN'T HARDLY WAIT screening with star Ethan Embry in attendance
SIXTEEN CANDLES screening with select talent in attendance followed by the ultimate '80s high school dance.
The Wild Brunch: A mimosa-fueled salute to the hottest men in cinema.
Early Screening of a buzzworthy new film this fall/holiday season.
And hey, our title is a bit of a misnomer, since Forever Fest welcomes fans of "girlie" culture regardless of gender. Head to the Kickstarter page to scope the pledge rewards and find out more.
