If you love zombies as much as we do, then you’ve been waiting for the official full-length trailer for World War Z for what feels like an eternity. The good news is the wait is finally over. As to whether the wait was worth it? We'll leave that up to you to decide.
While our hopes for the big-budget adaptation of Max Brooks’ popular novel have dimmed – thanks to a lengthy delay, reports that the film required extensive reshoots, rumors that Damon Lindelof was called in to fix the ending, and a postproduction process that found star Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster no longer even speaking – it’s still kind of exciting to finally get a look at this thing for ourselves.
The trailer finds Pitt and his family trapped in an inner-city gridlock when the zombie apocalypse kicks off in earnest, but these aren’t your father’s walking dead. Rather than go the shambling Romero route, Forster’s zombies look to owe more to Umberto Lenzi’s running morti viventi in City of the Walking Dead. Sort of. They're not wearing polyester slacks like they do in Lenzi's film.
The zombies are pretty odd looking in this clip – and while we never get a good look at them, it’s very strange that they’re presented like this sort of “running tidal wave” at various points in the clip. We’re not sure what that’s all about, but we’ll try to withhold judgment on them until we see the actual film.
We love the idea of Brad Pitt fighting zombies, but all the negative buzz and delays for World War Z are making us nervous. We’ll have to wait until June 21, 2013 to figure out if this one can succeed in spite of its troubled production. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think.
