First Piece of 'Watchmen' Prequel Art Unveiled

Nite Owl drawing

Rumors of a comics-based prequel to the groundbreaking Watchmen series have been circulating for quite some time – and now it looks like things are finally coming to fruition if this new piece of cover art is any indication.

Bleeding Cool debuted an original drawing of Nite Owl, created by the father and son duo of Joe and Andy Kubert. The website says this is all part of the currently in development plan to create a prequel to Alan Moore’s much loved comic classic – and that it’s being worked on under the code name of Panic Room.

The drawing (pictured above) is being hailed as a cover, but we can’t shake the feeling that it looks more like a concept art piece, personally. Of course, it could be a cover in the early stages of development, but who can really tell? That doesn’t even seem particularly important at this point. What is important is that the art appears to confirm that the project is real and moving forward.

We’ll admit to being both nervous and excited about a Watchmen prequel – we’d love to spend more time in that fictional universe (plus it could potentially pave the way for a new Watchmen film), but we’re very wary of the fact that Alan Moore won’t be involved.

What do you guys think? Are you ready for more Watchmen? Let us know in the comment section below.
