The Amazing Spider-Man

Good Tuesday: Opening a day ahead of the national holiday, Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man earned $35 million on Tuesday, breaking the box office record previously held by Michael Bay’s Transformers -- for all movies opening on a Tuesday. We’ll have to wait until the weekend to see how well the new web-slinging movie holds up, but for now it’s an encouraging start for the reboot, though the lowest of the four Spider-Man movies to date. Rage No More?: We’ve seen images from the improbable sequel, Raging Bull II, which has begun filming in Los Angeles, but that may be all we ever see if MGM has its way. The parent company of the film studio that released Martin Scorsese’s 1980 classic has filed suit to halt production of the sequel, which stars William Forsyth as the aged boxer Jake LaMotta, the real-life character played by Robert De Niro in the original. MGM claims that it has all rights to LaMotta's story, with whom it signed a deal back in the 1970s. [Deadline]

Snuff Report: A new movie based on a novel by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Snuff) appears to be moving back onto the front burner. Fabien Martorell, whose credits include a documentary on Troma co-founder Lloyd Kaufman, will be taking the directing reins on Snuff, which is based on Palahniuk’s 2008 novel about an adult film actress who wishes to finish off her career by having sex with 600 men in one day. Darryl Hannah was erroneously reported to be starring in the movie last year. [Coming Soon]

Shaved for Action: Very little is known about Elysium, the science fiction action flick from Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9. But now we know what star Matt Damon will look like in the movie (below), which takes place on 22nd Century Earth; Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, and William Fichtner also star. [ via The Playlist]
