It appears the galaxy’s most inept fighting force is getting a bit of a makeover in J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: Episode VII, and Indie Revolver has the first look. The site has scored exclusive photos of what are said to be the new helmets that Imperial Stormtroopers will be wearing in the upcoming sequel.
The first image should look pretty familiar to anyone who’s spent time in a galaxy far, far away. What we’re assuming is the standard Stormtrooper mask pays homage to the classic design of the original, while tweaking it for a new generation, as well. Perhaps the biggest difference is that it’s asymmetrical this time out – it features a breathing vent in the mouth area only on the left side. Check it out in the photo above.
The second image features an alternate mask, for what people are referring to as “The Jungle Trooper.” This one features a back neckguard, two breathing vents, and a single eye slit. See below.
All in all, both designs look great, giving fans more hope that the new trilogy will actually retain the feel and spirit of the original films. Let’s just hope both of these new, modern helmets have some sort of targeting system in them so the Stormtroopers can actually hit something with their blasters on occasion.
