First Looks: Bill Murray is a Perfect FDR and Helena Bonham Carter in 'Great Expectations'

Nov 04, 2011

Bill Murray looks just as we imagined a reincarnated President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to appear in the new pics for Hyde Park on Hudson. That hat, those glasses, and that grinning cigarette mimic the iconic Great Depression figure perfectly. Roger Michell directs the film — which is still looking for a distributor for a 2012 release date — based on a true story. The UK's King and Queen pay a visit to update New York in the late 1930s, which forces Roosevelt to put his affair with a distant cousin, Margaret Stuckley, on the backburner. Laura Linney, Olivia Colmen, Olivia Willliams, and Samuel West also star. Head to USA Today for a few behind the scenes details.

We're starting not to be able to tell one shrouded, spooky, cobwebby Helena Bonham Carter from another, but we still love that woman so here's Mrs. Tim Burton as Miss Havisham in the upcoming Great Expectations adaptation. Deadline had the new images from the film being directed by Harry Potter's Mike Newell, so Carter should feel right at home as the wealthy corpse-like spinster with her former director. Miss Havisham adopts a young girl, Estella, after being jilted on her wedding day. She tries to school her new daughter in the ways of heartbreak. Jeremy Irvine, Robbie Coltrone, Ralph Fiennes, Sally Hawkins, David Walliams, and Holliday Grainger as Estella also star. The UK will see Great Expectations next fall in time to celebrate Dickens' 200th birthday, but they don't have a stateside distributor yet. Does the witchy Carter look the way you imagined the lit figure?
