Sexy Beast director Jonathan Glazer is currently in post-production with his sci-fi-ish road tale Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson. THR shared the first official image of the actress, a character adapted from Michael Faber's novel. Johansson will play an alien in disguise, sent by a megacorporation on her home planet to prey on hitchhikers for flesh. Knowing Glazer's work, we find it hard to imagine this being a straight sci-fi, creature tale with gory horror elements. And like the novel, we're expecting something more allegorical and psychological — hence our first peek not being filled with a fleshmunching Johansson. We don't want to give anything away, but we're enjoying this steely on the outside, vulnerable on the inside view of the actress that has been more center stage lately, most recently in The Avengers.
The film shot in London and Scotland earlier this year, and Glazer hasn't made a movie in eight years (too long!). We have faith that his return will be as interesting as the rest of his moody mythos and beautifully shot. Let us know if you've read Faber's book and where you see things headed for the big screen version in the comments below. Under the Skin isn't slated for release at this time, but we'll probably get to see more of the movie as it develops into the fall festival season.
