First 'Wonder Woman' Footage Previews an Epic Journey

Wonder Woman

This week has turned into an excellent time to get an advance look at what Warner Bros. has planned for the DC Cinematic Universe. First we heard Wonder Woman had added a key cast member -- Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons and mother of the titular character, played by Gal Gadot -- and also received confirmation from costar Chris Pine that the film would be set largely during World War I.

Yesterday we got a look at the official logo for the movie, though we doubted that actual footage would be featured in last night's TV special, DC Films Presents: The Dawn of the Justice League on The CW. But surprise, surprise, surprise! The first footage from Wonder Woman made its premiere during the show, and it looks even better than anticipated.

Granted, it's very brief, but DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns set up the film's premise as an origin story and Gal Gadot added: "We're gonna see her coming of age, the entire history, what's her mission." The footage shows the character in costume as Wonder Woman, fighting against German soldiers and traveling with Chris Pine as her love interest Steve Trevor. It also gives a preview of her secret identity as Diana Prince and features a few words from director Patty Jenkins. The movie heads for release on June 23, 2017.

Wonder Woman will also pop up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the TV special gathered together footage that, for the most part, we've already seen in trailers and TV spots, but combined with quick words from Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and director Zack Snyder, it makes for a great preview package.

As if that wasn't enough, the special also highlighted the future contributions of three superheroes: Aquaman (Jason Mamoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller). The trio will be included in Justice Leage: Part One, set for release on November 10, 2017, in advance of starring in their own individual movies and each actor spoke briefly about their respective roles. Lastly, Green Lantern Corps was confirmed to be coming in 2020.
