First 'Straight Outta Compton' Pic Shows Who Will Be Playing Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E

Biopics about famous musicians are all too common, but what makes Straight Outta Compton stand out isn't just that it's about controversial '80s rap group N.W.A., but that it's being produced by the surviving members of N.W.A. themselves. And if that weren't a close enough connection between the subjects and the movie about them, Ice Cube is actually being portrayed by his real son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., in the movie.

Starting from the top left corner and going counterclockwise, we have Ice Cube, his son O'Shea Jackson Jr. as '80s Ice Cube, Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre., the real Dr. Dre, and lastly director F. Gary Gray (who got his big break when he directed Ice Cube in Friday) in the middle.

Straight Outta Compton will hit theaters on August 14, 2015, and it'll be interesting to see how much it embraces the rebelious, politically incorrect roots of the group, or if it'll be a more traditional movie about underdogs on the rise.

Here's the official synopsis:

In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country.  When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation.  Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
