File Minority Report Under “Blu-ray” in April

Jan 25, 2010

Remember back when Tom Cruise made movies you wanted to see instead of being famous for his Scientology rants and couch-jumping antics? One of his most criminally underrated performances was in 2002’s futuristic Minority Report, which is based on a Philip K. Dick novel and stars Cruise as Detective John Anderton who works with three psychics in Washington, D.C.’s “Precrime” unit to stop murders before they happen. The situation gets hairy when Anderton’s own name comes up as the killer of someone he has never met, causing him to go on the lam and attempt to debunk the supposedly infallible system he has championed in order to clear his name.

Paramount has announced that it will release Minority Report on Blu-ray from a “true 4K master” on April 20. This will be the third Steven Spielberg movie to be released in HD, following Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Many of the DVD special features will be ported over to the BD, but some will now be presented in high-definition. Those include “The Future According to Steven Spielberg,” “Inside the World of Precrime,” “Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and Minority Report,” “Minority Report: Future Realized,” “Minority Report: Props of the Future,” highlights from the set and commercials from the future. We hope Spielberg releases more of his biggest blockbusters like Jaws, E.T. and Jurassic Park on Blu-ray soon so that his buddy, George Lucas, won’t make us wait another 10 years before we can see Star Wars in HD.
