September is right around the corner but Blu-ray Bob is still feeling the heat of summer—and not just from the wildfires torching Southern California. We’re talking about The Big Heat (pictured), as in Fritz Lang’s classic 1953 film noir starring Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame and Lee Marvin. The critically acclaimed film is the centerpiece of The Colombia Pictures Film Noir Collection I, available on November 3. The five-disc set includes four DVD debuts: The Sniper, Five Against the House, Murder By Contract and The Lineup. The real treat for noir nuts is that the bonus materials include commentary and special introductions by film noir enthusiasts and historians, including directors Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann and Christopher Nolan as well as novelist James Ellroy and Film Noir Foundation founder Eddie Muller. We just hope this fine boxed set’s The Big Heat is what is warming up stores in November instead of more wildfires.
