'Fargo' TV Trailer: This Looks Like a Brilliant Extension of the Classic Coen Brothers Movie

'Fargo' TV Trailer: This Looks Like a Brilliant Extension of the Classic Coen Brothers Movie

Mar 19, 2014

Aw jeez, Fargo. We already love you and all it took was seeing Martin Freeman’s bloody mug in this trailer for the upcoming FX series inspired by the 1996 Coen brothers film. Bring on the Minnesota accents!

Freeman plays a very William H. Macy-esque character in the show that pairs him with a drifter type — the kind of guy that only sleazy Billy Bob Thornton does best. Thornton’s Lorne is a bad influence on Freeman’s Lester, a formerly innocent insurance salesman. Plans are hatched, schemes are schemed, and doncha-knows are exchanged. What’s not to love?

The Coen brothers have joined the show as executive producers, so it’s probably safe to say Fargo the TV series won’t totally suck — especially with talented stars like Freeman and Thornton and Bob Odenkirk and Oliver Platt and… yes. Allison Tolman will star as ambitious police officer Molly Solverson, a play on Frances McDormand’s Marge Gunderson (we love her dearly). All the pieces of the puzzle are here, so don’t disappoint us FX. Dig into the trailer for more, and let us know if you’ll be watching the darkly comedic antics of small-town Minnesota remade for the small screen.
