Fantastic Mr. Fox Trots Home in March

Fantastic Mr. Fox Trots Home in March

Whenever Pixar releases a film, like last year’s Up, it tends to unjustifiably overshadow all the other animated pictures during awards season. The imaginative Coraline is not getting the love it deserves and neither is the heartwarming stop-motion adventure Fantastic Mr. Fox, which features the voices of George Clooney and Meryl Streep. Directed by Wes Anderson, Fantastic Mr. Fox is based on the cherished best-selling book by Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Mr. and Mrs. Fox (Clooney and Streep) live a happy home life with their eccentric son (Jason Schwartzman) until Mr. Fox reverts to his sneaky old ways and plans the biggest heist the animal world has ever seen. When some mean old farmers join forces against the Fox family, they underestimate how fantastic Mr. Fox and his master plan are.

Twentieth Century Fox, natch, is bringing Fantastic Mr. Fox home on DVD and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on March 23. The DVD contains “From Script to Screen,” “Still Life (Puppet Animation)” and “A Beginner’s Guide to Whack-Bat.” The Blu-ray has all of those extras plus several more “Making Mr. Fox Fantastic” featurettes and “Fantastic Mr. Fox: The World of Roald Dahl.” Crafty collectors who have more than one kind of video player in the home will want the combo pack, which gives you the Blu-ray and a digital copy of the movie for only $10 more than the solo Fox DVD.
