See Matthew McConaughey Weep While Watching 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Trailer

Apr 17, 2015

The new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted simultaneously online and at the Star Wars Celebration event yesterday, and while it played you could imagine the reactions being experienced worldwide, as millions of voices suddenly cried out with joy and then suddenly were even more excited for the upcoming sequel. It was the very opposite of a disturbance in the Force. It was indeed a reawakening.

Among those fans who captured their own emotional reactions is Matthew McConaughey, who broke down in tears watching from his spaceship, which is heading out to another galaxy far, far away. Okay, so it's not really McConaughey but his Interstellar character, Cooper, and obviously he's not really streaming the Force Awakens trailer in the original version of the clip below. But thanks to a funny YouTube user and the Kuleshov Effect, we get a video that many Star Wars fans could relate to.

The McConaughey reaction is a joke, but it references and parodies genuine trailer reactions from fans who lose it while recording themselves watching. Here is a real reaction to the new trailer from a little girl who has apparently been a Star Wars fan her whole, short life:

Here is one where a guy shed tears during the first Force Awakens teaser last fall:

This guy couldn't keep it together during that first spot, either:

And there were actual celebrities who got emotional about the first teaser but just took to Twitter with their tears insead of YouTube:

Of course, it's not just Star Wars that can fill a fans eye ducts with water. The trailer for The Fault in Our Stars triggered recall emotions for readers of the book, as was the case for this girl, who at least came prepared:

This woman's breakdown while watching the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 tops all others, and the video went viral as a result:

So she made one for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, as well:

Back to Star Wars, it comes back full circle, too, as J.J. Abrams and Mark Hamill have both offered up their reactions to the fans' reactions to the new teaser. Unfortunately neither is done with a selfie webcam. However, Oscar Isaac has already said that even he got misty eyed watching it.

We leave you with something else to react to, now. Here's a combination of both Star Wars: The Force Awakens teasers for one big super trailer (via Slashfilm):
