This Fan-Made Groot Mask from 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Looks Better Than CGI

May 29, 2014

When Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1, 2014, people all over the world are going to meet Groot, a giant, humanoid tree monster voiced by Vin Diesel. He'll no doubt spawn countless cosplay at Comic-Con and Halloween, but anyone planning a Groot costume in their not-too-distant future should know that someone has already made the Groot mask to end all Groot masks.

The below image is a fan-made Groot mask that's so dang good it keeps tricking our brains into wanting to think it's Photoshop magic and not the hard work of one very, very talented fan. It also doesn't help that there's no making-of pictures to go along with it, just this single picture submitted to the blog Guard the Galaxy [via Blastr].

Update: Thanks to Matt Patches, we now know this amazing mask is the work of HurleyFX. You can follow him on Facebook for more pictures of his process, including a look at some more of the costume.

Groot Mask

Sorry, Vin Diesel. He is Groot.
