It doesn’t seem possible, but the original Star Wars debuted 35 years ago today – and in celebration, we bring you this very cool live reading of the script -- not from the original cast, but by some of the biggest names in cartoon voice acting. That’s right – Bender, Pinky, Bubbles…even Batman will lend their vocal talents to recreating one of the greatest movies of our lifetime. The results are magical.
The live reading took place at the 2012 Emerald City Comic Con and features Billy West, Tara Strong, Maurice LaMarche, John DiMaggio, Kevin Conroy, Jess Harnell and Rob Paulsen reading the film’s script and acting out the parts in a number of wildly different voices. Hear Kevin Conroy narrate as Batman, laugh as Tara Strong portrays Darth Vader as Bubbles from The Power Puff Girls…it’s all pretty funny, particularly if you’re a big fan of cartoons.
This isn’t the first time a radio play version of Star Wars has been done (there was a version with Mark Hamill), but it’s arguably the best. Don’t just take our word for it – check out the full video below. May the Force be with you.
