Don’t look now, but The Human Centipede director Tom Six is at it again – confirming that The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence) is in the works. Read on for all of the early details.
Six’s first Centipede film took the cult community by storm with its gruesome premise (a doctor sews three humans together – mouth to anus – for his own disturbing edification) and a classic performance from actor Dieter Laser as the doctor. The sequel, meanwhile, didn’t quite resonate with fans in the same way – at least partially because Six went all postmodern on us by making a film that shifted to what was supposed to be the “real world”. Think of it like going from The Blair Witch Project to Book of Shadows and you’re on the right path.
While there’s no word yet on what the third film’s plot will be, the filmmaker has revealed that Laser and Human Centipede 2 star Laurence R. Harvey will appear in The Final Sequence. If that doesn’t convince you that Six is sticking with the meta-film trend started in the last movie, then perhaps this will: the director has also cast himself in a supporting role.
Six, never one to shy away from the sideshow atmosphere surrounding his work, has already proclaimed that Final Sequence will “make the last one look like a Disney film…it’s going to be my favorite. It’s going to upset a lot of people.” We’re okay with that – but we do hope the film will be more than button-pushing for the sake of button-pushing. Whatever the case turns out to be, this is apparently the end of the line for Human Centipede films. We're genuinely curious as to what Six will do next once this trilogy is completed.
Plans are in motion to begin shooting The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence) this May, with an eye toward a 2013 release date. The real question is, will you watch it?
