Empire Strikes Back Wampa deleted scene

If you’re a hard-core Star Wars nerd, then you’re already well aware that The Empire Strikes Back was set to feature a lot more action in the battle-of-Hoth sequence. Some of those cut sequences took place inside the rebel base and involved Wampas – the giant abominable snowman-esque creatures like the one who nearly finished off Luke in that icy cave.

As the lore goes, the rebels actually had some Wampas on the base, which they kept locked away for safety purposes. There’s even a video featuring C-3PO removing a sign to the Wampa containment area as the base is under attack with the hopes Imperial stormtroopers will open the door and get more than they bargained for.

However, this is the first time we've actually seen a photo of the Wampas in action.

In the picture above, it’s rebel soldiers, and not stormtroopers, being forced to confront the rampaging beasts in an icy hallway. We’re not entirely sure how this image fits into the greater context of the Wampas on the rebel base during the battle of Hoth, but it seems like they just ran wild and were an issue for rebel and imperial soldiers alike.

Whatever the case is, the picture is awesome – and now we find ourselves even more bummed out that this footage didn’t make it into the finished version of The Empire Strikes Back.
