Guillermo del Toro was at New York Comic-Con this weekend to drum up interest in his new monster movie, Pacific Rim (as if we all weren’t already hyped enough…).
While chatting with an assembled mass of reporters, del Toro was asked about his canceled videogame InSane. The promising project was set up at THQ, but when that publisher fell upon hard financial times, InSane was cut loose. Del Toro is still looking for a partner to bring his horrific vision to gamers everywhere – and he revealed that he’d love to team up with the guys at Valve.
The filmmaker cited his love of Left 4 Dead and Portal behind his reasoning – and then he decided to drop a tidbit that no one had heard prior: Ellen McLain, the voice of the hilariously evil GLaDOS in the Portal franchise, will actually be providing a voice for one of the robot A.I. systems in the upcoming Pacific Rim.
If you check out the video clip at Kotaku, you’ll see del Toro explain how this came to pass (and how his daughter helped make this a reality). If you’re not a gamer, this news probably doesn’t mean much to you – but trust us, this is a cool little Easter egg for the gaming-geek contingent. Now the real question becomes whether or not they’ll be any discussion of cake…
