Here's What Those 'Edge of Tomorrow' Aliens Almost Looked Like

As big fans of concept art around these parts, we're always excited to dive further behind the scenes of an alien-invasion movie because whenever a film is set to introduce an army of aliens, you just know there's massive amounts of alien art lying around some corner of the Internet. And that's exactly what we have for you today, thanks to Edge of Tomorrow production designer Oliver Scholl, who's released a ton of art his team created for the summer movie, including these alternate versions of its alien race, known as Mimics.

According to Scholl, their starting point for creating the Mimics was the original source, All You Need Is Kill, which began as a novel and later became a graphic novel. Here's what the Mimics looked like in the graphic novel.

"One could argue that our final Mimic at least has arms radiating like a seastar, if longer and nastier," Scholl says. "Did you know aliens have to have a face? I think we ended up with something unique and memorable after all."

Here's a glimpse of one of the Mimics used in the film.

Below you'll find a series of different alien designs that eventually lead them to the final Mimic, including this first piece of art that immediately reminds us of the Sentinels used in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Do you think they ended up with the right design for the final version, or do you like one of these alternate pieces better?
