Early Avatar Reviews, Spider-Man 4 Fail and Natalie the Zombie Slayer

Dec 11, 2009

  • Embargo? What Embargo? Lucky for Fox, early word on the hotly anticipated Avatar has been mostly positive, as critics like this one and this one broke the studio’s rule to hold reviews until next week faster than Tiger Woods broke his wedding vows.
  • Ghost Busted! Sigourney Weaver dropped the bomb about what role Bill Murray might play in Ghostbusters 3, saying to the UK’s Channel 4 News, "I might be in it; I see nothing wrong with being in it, although I don’t think I will have a big part. I think Bill Murray has a little more to do with it - he’s a ghost."
  • Spider-Man 4 Big BOO From the “what happened to this franchise?” department comes word that John Malkovich may bring his particular brand of cross-eyed, monotone scenery-chewing to the next movie as its lead villain, the Vulture, and Anne Hathaway will come on board not as Felicia Hardy’s Black Cat, but as a new villain called the Vulturess. Hunnh? Come on, Raimi. You can do better than this.
  • When Worlds Collide… you get weirdness like period-piece heroine Natalie Portman starring in the 19th century zombie romance (making it a -- "zom-rom"?) Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on the best-selling novel that spins Jane Austen’s classic into a quest for love and undead-slaying. Lionsgate is behind it, so some good love, death and destruction is guaranteed.
  • Ha-HA! Pee-wee Herman, who’s bringing his original stage show back to L.A.’s Club Nokia theater in January, tells the AP he wants to bring his TV show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse to the big screen next. Love it! For a giggle, check out this old clip from the TV show with Laurence Fishburne, who’d probably like to forget his days as a cow-boy. (Via Digital Spy)
