Dwayne Johnson has been very publicly teasing the idea of starring in a (still not officially unnannounced and dated) DC Comics Shazam movie, and that he would definitely be in the movie but just couldn't decide if he wanted to play the heroic Shazam or the villainous Black Adam (both characters have the normal role call of powers like superstrength, intellect, flight and so on).
Well, now we know who interests the muscleman more. Johnson has confirmed on Twitter that he will actually be playing bad guy Black Adam in an upcoming DC Comics movie. We don't know what that movie is or when it will come out, but it's probably a safe assumption that Black Adam will not be getting his own solo movie upfront, rather that he'll be a part of the planned Shazam movie.
Of course, that raises the question of whether or not Shazam himself will get an intro in another movie like Justice League, but you could spend all day falling down the rabbit hole of trying to predict superhero movie news, so let's just move on to what we know: Dwayne Johnson will be Black Adam, and Darren Lemke (Jack the Giant Slayer, Goosebumps) is the writer.
It's a role the actor has actually been tied to since back in 2007. In fact, here's a video of the Rock on MTV promoting Southland Tales saying that he was about to have a meeting with director Pete Segal (who, as far as we know, is not currently attached to this new movie) about taking on the role fans had been dying to see him play.
But what say you? Are you happy Johnson has chosen the dark side instead of the hero? And now who do you want to actually suit up as Shazam opposite him?
