The Chamber of Double Dips: Harry Potter Gets Ultimate Editions

Harry Potter is now the highest-grossing film franchise in history, which is exactly what happens when a studio won’t stop making them (the seventh installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be released in two parts) and the faithful go to theaters in droves—and in costume—for repeat viewings. To coincide with the November release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Warner Bros. is releasing the first two of eight planned Harry Potter Ultimate Editions on Blu-ray and DVD on December 8. Now you’re probably saying, “But Blu-ray Bob, I already have the first two movies on Blu-ray and they seemed pretty stuffed with extras. What the dirty damn Dumbledore are you talking about?” To dip or not to double dip—that is the question that you will have to answer yourself. The Ultimate Editions of Harry Potter and the Sorcer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets will contain both the theatrical and extended cuts of the movies plus all the extras from the previous releases, as well as BD-Live connectivity on the Blu-rays. What’s new: Each movie will contain a new one-hour featurette that highlights a unique aspect of the filmmaking process, for a total of eight hours. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Ultimate Edition will have “Creating the World of Harry Potter, Part 1: The Magic Begins,” in which viewers get an inside, in-depth look at the planning, creativity, personalities and other elements that went into the initial creation of Harry’s screen world. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets contains “Creating the World of Harry Potter, Part 2: Characters” in which fans get a look at the unique strengths of each of the films’ directors and what they brought to the principal characters in the Harry Potter series. Each Ultimate Edition will also come bundled with a 48-page collectible photo book. If you feel all of this just isn’t enough Potter and you need to buy more, we encourage you to just write a big check and mail it directly to J.K. Rowling because these Ultimate Editions are Hogwart Heaven.
