DVD Forecast: Release News for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Charlie St. Cloud, The Sorcerer's Apprenctice and More

Sep 13, 2010

Every Monday Blu-ray Bob gazes into his crystal ball and predicts what discs will be spinning in your DVD player in the upcoming months. This week’s forecast calls for teen-friendly supernatural wonders followed by a rain of blood.

If you have a teenage girl, one of the versions of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be under your Christmas tree this year. The third film in the vampire series starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner comes to disc on December 4 on DVD, a movie-only Blu-ray, and a BD/DVD combo pack with more extras. The latter contains audio commentary with Stewart and Pattinson, another commentary with novelist Stephanie Meyer, deleted and extended scenes, a six-part making-of documentary, a photo gallery and music videos.

Universal keeps the tween party going on November 9 on DVD and Blu-ray with the release of Charlie St. Cloud starring Zac Efron as a young man who survives an accident and is gifted with seeing the world in a unique way. This love story gets some love in the extras department with deleted scenes, "On Location With Zac Efron," "Zac Efron: Leading Man" and "The In-Between World," in which psychics, mediums and parapsychologists offer explanations of what might be happening to Charlie in the movie.

Disney hopes you'll feel the magic for The Sorcerer's Apprentice on November 30 that you didn't feel in theaters. The family adventure starring Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina and Monica Bellucci comes to DVD and a Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy combo pack with a making-of featurette and one deleted scene. Exclusive to the BD version are "Magic in the City," "Making Magic Real," "Fantasia: Reinventing a Classic," "The Fashionable Drake Stone," "The Grimhold: An Evil Work of Art" and "The Encantus." Unlike the early days of Blu-ray when studios used to slap a title on a high-def disc and inexplicably jettison all the extras the DVD version had, more and more Blu-rays seem to contain extras unavailable on the standard DVD.

Director Neil Marshall's bloody good Roman epic Centurion starring Michael Fassbender and Dominic West muscles its way to DVD and Blu-ray on November 2. Extras include a making-of featurette, deleted scenes, outtakes, interviews and more. Click here to read our exclusive interview with Marshall about the film.

Someone decided to remake the 1988 cult horror classic Night of the Demons, and we're simultaneously scared and curious about the results. The remake, which comes out on DVD and Blu-ray on October 19, stars Edward Furlong and Shannon Elizabeth as two people throwing a Halloween party in a haunted house with some uninvited guests from hell. Supplements include a director's commentary, interviews with cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage.
