DVD Forecast: Release News for The Karate Kid, Get Him to the Greek, Marmaduke and More

Aug 09, 2010

Every Monday Blu-ray Bob gazes into his crystal ball and predicts what discs will be spinning in your DVD player in the upcoming months. This week’s forecast calls for some kung fu fighting for a kid as fast as lightning.

The surprise hit The Karate Kid starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan chops its way onto DVD and Blu-ray on October 5. The remake of the 1984 film has grossed over $173 million domestically and comes home with "The Karate Kid Interactive Map of China," production diaries hosted by Jackie Chan, "Chinese Lessons—Learn Chinese!," a making-of featurette, Justin Bieber's music video "Never Say Never" and more. Expect this kid to be kicking back soon in an inevitable sequel.

Get Him to the Greek, the spin-off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, is coming home on DVD and Blu-ray on September 28. The hilarious rock 'n' roll comedy starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand gives you backstage access to the production on disc with several behind-the-scenes featurettes, a gag reel, commentary by director Nicolas Stoller and cast, musical performances, deleted/alternate scenes and five music videos. The BD has several encores, including additional deleted/extended scenes, musical performances from The Today Show and VH-1 Storytellers, cast auditions and even a karaoke track so you can sing along to 15 outrageous songs.

For those pet lovers out there who still think talking animals in movies are knee-slapping entertainment (you know who you are), Fox will take you there when it releases Marmaduke on DVD and Blu-ray on August 31. The family comedy based featuring the voices of Owen Wilson, George Lopez, Kiefer Sutherland and Fergie has extras that have gone to the dogs, including "Cowabarka! Sufing Dogs," "Canine Casting," deleted scenes, plus the BD exclusives "Marmaduke Mayhem! Gag Reel" and "Puppy Marmaduke and Kitty Carlos: Home Movies."

Attention fashionistas: Sony has announced Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky will be dressing up your disc collection on September 28. The biopic about the romance between the French fashion designer and the Russian composer stars Anna Mouglalis as Chanel and Mads Mikkelsen as Stravinsky. Both the DVD and Blu-ray will contain a making-of featurette.

The acclaimed indie drama Winter's Bones about a 17-year-old girl's quest to find her fugitive father took the Grand Jury Prize for a Dramatic Film at the Sundance Film Festival. It comes home on DVD and Blu-ray on October 26 with audio commentary, deleted scenes, a making-of featurette, a music video, visual scouting notes and more.
