Every Monday Blu-ray Bob gazes into his crystal ball and predicts what discs will be spinning in your DVD player in the upcoming months. This week’s forecast calls for a heavy pouring of cosmos followed by a supernatural dust storm.
Pick up the cheesecake and start pouring the cosmos—the year's biggest chick flick, Sex and the City 2, sasses its way into your home on October 26. The bloated sequel to the hit film about the romantic misadventures of four middle-aged harpies starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon comes to DVD and Blu-ray with "Revisiting the '80s" and "SATC2 Soundtrack: Behind the Scenes With Alicia Keys." The BD adds some additional exclusives, including commentary by director Michael Patrick King, a conversation with the director and Parker, "Styling Sex and the City 2," "Marry Me Liza!" and "The Men of Sex and the City." For those of you with X and Y chromosomes, October 26 might be a great time to go on that camping trip far away from civilization that you've been planning.
Jonah Hex tanked at the box office, but the supernatural Western based on the DC Comics character isn't as bad as those cranky critics who have it out for star Megan Fox want you to believe it is. In fact, Oscar-nominated Josh Brolin is tough and oddly likable as the scarred titular hero and fellow Oscar nominee John Malkovich chews up his role as a terrorist trying to unleash hell on earth. Warner Bros. is releasing the film on DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on October 12 with deleted scenes, "The Inside Story of Jonah Hex" and "The Weird Western Tales of Jonah Hex."
Director Thomas Balmes's acclaimed documentary, Babies, ga-ga-goos its way to disc on September 28 from Universal. The ideal film for expectant and hopeful mothers about the development and growth of four babies from around the globe (Mongolia, Japan, United States and Namibia) comes to DVD and Blu-ray with the featurette "The Babies: Three Years Later," in which the director visits the now four-year-old babies and their parents.
If you've gotten over the preposterous letdown that was the Lost season finale, you might want to mark your calendars for August 24 when Lost: The Complete Sixth and Final Season and Lost: The Complete Collection are found on DVD and Blu-ray. The Complete Collection will include a bonus disc with over two hours of additional content, but all the supplements in the world won't correct how the show's creators decided to wrap up this epic TV adventure.
Fans of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will want to check out its sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire, when it is released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 26. The political thriller follows the adventures of wise-beyond-her-years hacker Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) who is wrongly accused of murder when her fingerprints show up on a murder weapon.
