May 17, 2010

Every Monday Blu-ray Bob gazes into his crystal ball and predicts what discs will be spinning in your DVD player in the upcoming months. This week’s forecast calls for some buddy-cop action and a chance of an isolated romance.

Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan play two NYPD detectives on the trail of a memorabilia-obsessed Mexican gangster in Cop Out. Warner Bros. is bringing this latest Kevin Smith comedy home on July 20 in a DVD edition with deleted scenes and a Blu-ray with “Maximum Comedy Mode with Kevin Smith and Seann William Scott,” “Focus Points” and “Wisdom of the S*** Bandit.” Blu-ray Bob is hoping there is an Easter egg on either Roll Out with Your Glock Out Edition disc featuring Smith ranting at Southwest airlines for booting his formidable behind off a flight.

Paramount’s remedy for June gloom is the youth comedy She’s Out of My League starring Jay Baruchel and Alice Eve as an unlikely couple. The DVD and Blu-ray are slated for June 22 and feature deleted scenes, an extended ending, a blooper reel, a director’s commentary track and “Devon’s Dating Show—A Hilarious ‘Dos & Don’ts’ Guide to Dating for Guys.”

Everyone’s favorite serial killer finds that playing house with a wife and kids puts a wet blanket on his gruesome hobby in Dexter: The Complete Fourth Season. Paramount is bringing the fourth round of the addictive Showtime drama starring Michael C. Hall home on August 17 on both DVD and Blu-ray just before the new season begins in September.

If you couldn’t get enough of Kick-Ass you might enjoy Power Kids, which is about a group of children who take on a hospital filled with terrorists in order to get their friend a heart transplant. The martial arts flick chops its way home on June 8 on both DVD and Blu-ray from Magnolia.

Chris Klein plays a cop seeking revenge for the death of a fellow officer in Caught in the Crossfire. The action thriller co-starring Adam Rodriguez and 50 Cent comes home on July 13 on DVD and Blu-ray with some outtakes.
