Reskinning characters in popular video games is not a new phenomenon – modders have been doing it for years now, with cool and hilarious results. However, Bruno R. Marcos’ Donkey Me takes modding and reskinning into awesome new territory – reimagining Donkey Kong in ways sure to delight film geeks and fanboys alike.
Marcos has taken Nintendo’s much-loved video game and replaced the stars (Mario and Donkey Kong, respectively) with popular characters from the movies. Play as Luke Skywalker, Flash Gordon, Indiana Jones, Conan, Ellen Ripley and a ton of other geek icons as you climb scaffolding that’s been redesigned to tie in with the character. Even the music has been redone! It’s like geek heaven…
Marcos is set to release the game for free download today or tomorrow – and promises that even more movie-inspired skins are in the works (I’m hoping for some horror ones – gotta have a Friday the 13th and a Halloween at the very least). Keep an eye on the developer’s website for that download link when it goes live, but in the meantime check out this awesome video showing you some of the cool mods Marcos has already crafted.
