Who could have guessed that the little kid from Angels in the Outfield would grow up to not only be one of the most beloved actors of his generation, but that he'd make his directorial debut with a rom-com about a hunky Jersey boy who has an addiction to Internet porn? And that it would feature a prime role for his Angels in the Outfield costar Tony Danza? It is indeed a strange, unpredictable world we live in.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt's film is called Don Jon, though when it premiered to rave reviews at Sundance earlier this year it went by the slightly longer name of Don Jon's Addiction. In it JGL stars as a good looking dude from Jersey who is obsessed with muscles, fast cars, and good looking women. He finally meets one he can see himself with (Scarlett Johansson), but she doesn't take too kindly to his Internet browsing behavior. That sounds like the formula for a heavy, Shame-esque drama about struggling with personal demons, but it actually looks like a light, funny comedy about a guy, his family, and the new gal in his life.
Relativity Media will be releasing Don Jon in theaters on October 18, 2013.
