The film doesn't have its lead actor yet (latest rumors claim Jamie Foxx is the frontrunner), though The Weinstein Co. made sure to snag a release date for Quentin Tarantino's next film, Django Unchained, sooner rather than later. They've gone ahead and snapped up December 25th, 2012 for a Christmas release, obviously angling for major awards consideration. As of now it's the only film arriving on Christmas Day in 2012, though expect that to change in the weeks and months to come as other studios figure out the perfect counter-programming.
Django Unchained will mark yet another revenge story for Tarantino -- this one falling somewhere in the vicinity of a Spaghetti Southern Western -- as it will follow a former slave named Django who teams with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to exact revenge upon the seedy, evil plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio) who's holding his wife captive. Samuel L. Jackson is also said to factor into the story, though the official cast has not been announced yet.
