How 'Django Unchained' Connects to the 'Pulp Fiction' Universe

Jan 21, 2013

Quentin Tarantino is known for leaving little clues in all of his films that tie them together into one universe. It's never anything major, and typically just involves characters being relatives. Vic Vega (Michael Madsen) in Reservoir Dogs is the brother of Vincent Vega (John Travolta) in Pulp Fiction. Donny "The Bear Jew" Donowitz (Eli Roth) in Inglourious Basterds is the father of Lee Donowitz (Saul Rubinek) in True Romance. And now we can add another piece of genealogy to the Tarantino universe's family tree thanks to a sharp-eyed Reddit user.

Captain Koons (Christopher Walken) in Pulp Fiction is a distant descendant of Crazy Craig Koons, a member of the Smitty Bacall gang that Django (Jamie Foxx) and Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) go after in Django Unchained. Sure, it's not a mind-blowing connection, but then again Tarantino never said it would be. The "it's so minor" quote in the picture above is a reference to a recent video interview where the director himself couldn't even remember what the connection was.
