'Django' Everywhere: Franco Nero to Star in 'Django Lives!,' Listen to the 'Unchained' Soundtrack for Free

Sergio Corbucci's 1966 gunslinger Django was one of several spaghetti Westerns the Italians created during a slump in the American genre. Its success spawned a series of imitators that starred violent, amoral heroes like Django's Franco Nero. The late 1960s saw a slew of "Django" films, although most of them had nothing to do with the original. Now, Quentin Tarantino will add his own work to the oeuvre with Django Unchained, opening Christmas day. Nero makes a cameo appearance (pictured above), but it looks like he'll also be reprising the role that made him famous in yet another Django film. The Italian actor has agreed to star in Django Lives! for producers Eric Zaldivar and Mike Malloy (Eurocrime!, The Scarlet Worm). Slashfilm shared the synopsis, that could feature Looper star Noah Segan, of all people:

"The story would have former gunslinger Django, in his twilight years, ending up as a silent-movie consultant in 1915 Hollywood and meeting an aspiring filmmaker with whom he reluctantly goes into business. When the filmmaker gets killed by racketeers, the young man’s gambling debts are considered transferred to Django, who must now flee for safety to a small rural community. But that town’s sharply divided inhabitants have their own problems, and Django becomes embroiled in a bloody conflict immediately upon arrival."

Also new on the Western front is the full Django Unchained soundtrack and over 12 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage, which the Playlist recently shared. Italo-Western fans will recognize several famous tracks and familiar names, like the great Ennio Morricone. The B-roll video does contain spoilers, so you may want to bookmark that bad boy for later. Djenjoy!
