If there's one upcoming YA franchise that has a chance at competing with The Hunger Games, it's Divergent. Not only does it also feature a strong female lead played by a very exciting up-and-coming actress in Shailene Woodley, but the book series it's based on is very popular and its themes of being your own person and overcoming oppression are similiar to the ones found in the popular Jennifer Lawrence-led franchise. Plus, Divergent is a series the studio (Summit Entertainment, which was responsible for the Twilight franchise) believes in, to the point where its sequel (Insurgent) is already being prepped for production in a couple of months.
With that said, here's your newest trailer, which definitely helps describe the plot more. It's also the trailer that feels the most like The Hunger Games, which should ultimately help the word of mouth leading up to the film's March 21 release.
Here's the film's official synopsis:
In a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
