With Star Wars mania running rampant all across the Internet, it’s easy to forget that Disney has other hot properties in its stable. One of its classics is back in the spotlight today, with the reveal of the first of 19 new Mickey Mouse shorts set to start airing on Disney’s branded networks this summer.
Thanks to the magic of the Internet, you can get a sneak peek at the first new title in the line-up, a charming episode entitled Croissant de Triomphe.
In the three-and-a-half minute clip, Minnie Mouse’s Parisian café runs out of croissants. It’s up to Mickey to rush to her rescue – but Paris traffic and other obstacles try to prevent him from reaching his objective.
Website Cartoon Brew has an interesting breakdown of the first episode, noting that it features a distinctive visual style that marries modern animation visuals with classic 1930s character designs. They’re a little less enamored with the writing, which seems to set up jokes that never really pay off in any meaningful way.
Those complaints aside, the short is an entertaining way to kill a few minutes of time. Check it out below, and be ready for more of these Disney shorts to turn up on the company’s various cable networks and website starting on June 28.
