Disney Puts Sleeping Beauty to Sleep Until 2015

Dec 30, 2009

If you’re a fan of classic Disney animation, mark January 30, 2010 on your calendar. That is the day that the studio puts Sleeping Beauty back in its vault until 2015, so you might want to pick up a copy with that Christmas gift card you just got if you or someone in your family will want to watch Maleficent cast a spell on Princess Aurora in the next five years. It will no doubt become an expensive collector’s item.

The Sleeping Beauty: 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition Blu-ray featured groundbreaking bonus features with its games and the ability to chat with a friend while the movie is playing via BD-Live. Although the classic animated fairy tale was surely a hit for the studio, Disney has always systematically put moratoriums on its most popular titles. Five years from now, Sleeping Beauty will awaken from her long slumber in the vault as a Diamond Edition with bonus features we can only dream of.
