If you listen to folks like Harold Camping and his supporters, then tomorrow (May 21st) is Judgement Day, which is important for two reasons: 1) It's the day when Jesus is supposed to return to bring all those worthy Christians back up to Heaven with him, and 2) It signals the End of Days for everyone else left on earth (bummers). So no, the world isn't going to end tomorrow -- it's just going to become a lot less crowded (bonus: no more traffic). Then, once Jesus brings all the deserving Christians up to Heaven, he will wreak havoc upon everyone else by unleashing five months worth of craptacular shenanigans, beginning with a lot of earthquakes. Ultimately, the idea here is that on October 21st, that'll be it. Whatever is left at that point will be wiped out so that Satan can build more Wal-Marts ... or something like that.
In the meantime, though, this is a good opportunity to talk about which movie you would watch if the world really was ending tomorrow. This is sort of like the desert island question, only a bit sadder and more final. Do you theme it and throw on a movie like Independence Day, 2012 or The Day After Tomorrow -- a disaster film with a happy enough ending to help you push through those final moments with a more positive outlook on things?
Or do you settle for something iconic from your childhood, like Star Wars, The Goonies, E.T., Jaws, The Godfather, Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz etc ... Maybe you'd rather turn off your brain and watch some silly comedy, or turn off your brain and see naked people by watching some silly teen sex comedy.
Horror, sci-fi, drama, comedy, geeky, animated, western, thriller ... if the world were ending tomorrow (and it still might!), which movie would you make your last?
