Children’s book author Stuart Hample tackled a very adult subject matter when he created Inside Woody Allen — a comic strip that ran from 1976 to 1984. It was based on Allen’s real life and the many neuroses the director frequently tackles in his films — including women, the meaning of life and his own mental health.
You might recognize the drawing style from Allen’s Annie Hall. The animated scenes in the movie were based on Hample’s work. Our film friend @emmafgreen spotted a tiny online collection of the strips, and we’ve pulled a few of the highlights for you, below. They’re fully of Allen’s hokey charm, but we'd still rather watch him humiliate himself at the movies.
