It must be fun being George Lucas, not just for obvious reasons like being filthy rich and then some, but for nerdy reasons like being able to control every little square inch of the Star Wars universe, allowing him to add things to Star Wars canon on a whim. If he wants to name a character after a cheeseburger he ate last night, so be it. Alternatively, if he wants to name a planet after someone like The Daily Show's Jon Stewart, then he'll make it so. And, um, that's what he did.
At the annual Star Wars fan convention "Celebration V" last year, Jon Stewart was brought in to interview George Lucas for something called The Main Event. During their conversation, Stewart, for some reason, asked Lucas what the name of Obi-Wan Kenobi's home planet was. Lucas, not knowing the answer, joked, "This is one of the first things I wrote in the very first script. He comes from the planet Stewjon," referring to Jon Stewart.
Well just when you'd think the whole thing would end there, it hasn't. Since that one joke, Lucas has now made it Star Wars canon through the Holocron Continuity Database, and on all official merchandise and other Obi-Wan-related material, it will list the character's home planet as Stewjon (see image above).
We looked for the interview online, and found this six-part shaky-cam version for those who want to check it out. We're not sure at what point the Obi-Wan stuff comes in, but feel free to watch and geek out (and let us know if you discover which part it is so we can update the post). There's actually some fun little nuggets of info in here, and even a couple special guests (ahem Luke and Leia) make an appearance toward the end.
