'Harry Potter's David Yates Swings onto 'Tarzan,' Plus Here's Who's Rumored to Play King of the Jungle

David Yates, DirectorDirector David Yates – best known for making Warner Bros. unfathomable amounts of money by directing the last four Harry Potter movies – has finally selected his first post-HP project. The subject matter might surprise you.

Vulture reports that Yates has committed to helming Warner Bros. long-in-development update of the Tarzan franchise. Apparently, it’s been long enough that no one remembers Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan anymore.

Yates, who was set to helm a multi-film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand a few years back, only agreed to take on the project this past Monday, so there’s no official casting info yet. We do, however, have a list of potential actors being eyed for the project.

Vulture’s sources say Henry Cavill, Pacific Rim’s Charlie Hunnam, and True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard are set to take meetings with the director in the near future. Warner Bros. is also apparently quite interested in Tom Hardy taking the role, but no one’s sure if Hardy is even open to considering it. Of those choices, we like Hardy best. Hunnam’s a great actor, but we can’t picture the Sons of Anarchy star trading in his club’s patch for a loincloth.

What say you, dear readers? Are you ready for a new Tarzan flick? Who can you see hanging out with Cheetah and Jane? Is this even a good idea after John Carter – another project based on the work of Edgar Rice Burroughs – tanked at the box office? Weigh in below.
