Stretching further away from his Harry Potter roots, Variety reports that Daniel Radcliffe will be headlining a new drama, Brooklyn Bridge. Director Douglas McGrath will tell the story of Radcliffe’s “brilliant but inexperienced engineer Washington Roebling” — the real-life builder who oversaw the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge after the death of his father, its initial designer.
“Besieged by calamity, danger and doubt, Washington’s obsession threatens his health and risks driving his family apart until he discovers he has an improbable ally… his charming and shrewd wife Emily,” the website shares. The real Emily Warren Roebling learned construction in order to supervise the project during her husband’s absence.
The film starts shooting in August, but Radcliffe has plenty to keep him busy in the meantime — including a part as Igor in the upcoming Paul McGuigan Frankenstein film and the soon-to-be released Horns, based on Joe Hill’s novel of the same name.
