Emma Watson Has Been Dethroned As the Most Dangerous Celebrity to Search for Online

Sep 19, 2013

It's that awkward time of year when computer-security-software company McAfee releases its "Most Dangerous Cyber Celebrity" list.

Harry Potter's Emma Watson was reigning champ in 2012, but she's been dethroned by Mortal Instruments and Mirror, Mirror star Lily Collins as the most dangerous celebrity to search for online. The list includes stars of all ilk, which places singer Avril Lavigne in the number two spot. She made headlines this year for marrying Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger (who is 10 years older than her, adding an extra creepy element to McAfee's findings). Taking advantage of Sandra Bullock's Gravity buzz, online lawbreakers helped the actress round out the top three. Mad Men star Jon Hamm was the only man to make the cut, because he's a magical unicorn who inspires sleazy Web searches from everyone, everywhere. And let us not forget underweargate.

The takeaway: famous, young, female and approachable to the average Joe seems to be the requirement for cybercriminals looking to take advantage of our obsession with pop culture and Hollywood. If you want to have your credit card details stolen and abused, be sure to search for freebies and nude photos of celebs on McAfee's list while the rest of us laugh at you.
