Two of the old-old-old-school Saturday Night Live comedians are heading back to the big screen together. Based on this Hollywood Reporter piece (which cites a famous comedian's own Facebook page), it seems that Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase are writing something together.
Says Mr. Aykroyd: "Cannot say too much about the concept, but the joy of working with [Chevy] again is one that I am extremely excited about." Fans of chaotic '80s comedies will no doubt recall that the actors worked together, and rather well, in John Landis' Spies Like Us -- and again (rather poorly) in Aykroyd's terrible Nothing But Trouble and the truly unwatchable Caddyshack 2. Also Chevy Chase had a funny cameo in Michael Ritchie's The Couch Trip, which stars Dan Aykroyd. I only know this stuff because I love guys like Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase.
More on this reunion as it becomes available, but let's all hope that this isn't a lame sequel or lazy nostalgia grab. These guys have made some damn funny movies in the past, and there's no reason they shouldn't come back with something solid. (Fingers crossed.)
