Even though the last season of FX’s
Nip/Tuck is still on the air, we already miss Dylan Walsh. The charming actor has played Dr. Sean McNamara on the cutting-edge show for six seasons, but when he stepped out to take the leading role in
The Stepfather critics didn’t exactly throw down a carpet of rose petals to welcome the cable TV star to the big screen. In the remake of the 1987 thriller, a young man (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) in love with a charismatic new man (Walsh). The son begins to suspect that his mother’s new love might be the notorious killer featured on
America’s Most Wanted. The young man and his girlfriend (Amber Heard) delve into his stepfather’s dark past to uncover the truth before it’s too late.
The Stepfather comes home on February 9th as an unrated director’s cut on both DVD and Blu-ray that is hopefully more intense than the somewhat restrained PG-13 theatrical version. The killer bonus features include a commentary with Walsh, Badgley and director Nelson McCormick, a making-of featurette, a stunts featurette and a gag reel. The BD version has movieIQ—access to real-time information on the cast, trivia and more while watching the flick. With regard to how Walsh feels after making this tepid thriller, Blu-ray Bob hopes someone asks the Nip/Tuck plastic surgeon, “Tell me what you don’t like about yourself.”
