The Child's Play reboot Curse of Chucky has been kind of flying under the radar, though that's no grand shocker considering the movie is heading straight to video on October 8, 2013. Don't let that release plan fool you, though. Not everything that goes straight to video is total junk these days. There are just too many movies getting made and too much competition at the box office, so more and more movies call TV sets home first. And then there's been the steep fall in the cost of professional-grade film equipment, which in turn has marked a steep rise in the production quality of even low-budget movies.
All of that is a roundabout way of saying don't write off Curse of Chucky just because it's not premiering on 3,000 screens after a multimillion-dollar marketing budget. All things considered, Curse of Chucky, which is written and directed by Don Mancini, who created the demonic doll back in 1988, doesn't look that bad -- at least as far as what this trailer shows us.
Don't worry horror purists, Brad Dourif once again voices the serial killer-possesed child's toy, and he's not the only Dourif in the film, either. His daughter Fiona is the (human) star of the show as Nica, a woman who grows increasingly suspicious of the new doll her visiting niece has been playing with. Check it out.
